Often we find the lines behind the Imam of prayers at congregational (Jama`ah) prayers to be quite slack. More often than not they are more like semi-circles rather than straight lines. The consequences of neglecting its importance is quite severe and very reflective of the situation of the Shias today. We read an authentic hadith related to us by The Messenger of Allah (swt) via the Imams (as).
"Then there came to him (Moses) one of the two women, walking shyly. She said: 'Verily, my father calls you that he may reward you for having watered [our flocks] for us...'"
Imam Muhamad al-Baqir [a] said, "Moses [a] said to her: Show me the road, but walk behind me, for the Children of Jacob do not look at the posteriors of women."
"... So when he came to him and narrated the story, he said: "Fear you not. You have escaped from an oppressive people." (28:25)
